Porcelain Sculptural installation videos and kinetic works by Andrea Kavanagh completed 2019-2026.

Some of my work has been site specific responding to a particular place and other pieces have a kinetic component which is better seen moving in video, see below

“In Spiralling Dream Flowers” shown here at The Hunt Museum Inaugural Open exhibition 2025-2026. Dna spiralling at the core with blood cells and archetype flowers turning and reminding us that we are a part of nature and nature is a part of us and we must protect it.
“In Spiralling Dream Flowers” exhibited at 195th RHA Annual exhibition. porcelain, acrylic, line, beads, mirror 2025
Ethereal Blooms 2024 was shown at Artriddlers 2024 exhibition at One Charlemont and also in 2025 at Sculpture in Context exhibition at the National Botanic Gardens Dublin. This piece evokes delicacy, movement, lightness, and an otherworldly beauty, blooming with dreamlike flowers, branches, and roots. Inspired by forms like blood cells and blossoms, Ethereal Blooms invites reflection on our deep connection to nature, the solace it offers, and the fragile balance it holds.
Created by hand in porcelain ceramic, each element is suspended from an acrylic disc with beads, wire, and line, floating above the Alpine House plants at a height of 80cm.
“Ethereal Blooms” hanging here is the Alpine House of The National Botanic Gardens Dublin for Sculpture in Context Sept-Oct 2025
Luminous Seeds installed in The 194th RHA Annual in Dublin May-July 2024
Luminous Seeds is primarily created with the seeds heads of the physalis alkekengi or Chinese lantern coated in porcelain slip and fired to burn away the plant material leaving the delicate membrane or memory of the seed. The golden seeds in some parts of the work are referencing the energy which flows up through the plant and gives it life. the work moves very gently in the air kinetically and this for me reminds me of the turgidity of plants when they have had no water and they seem to move in your hands as the life giving water is received at the roots and moves up the plant. again this work is about us and nature, our place to protect and be nourished ourselves by the natural world.

“Molecular Black Star” 2023 This Piece started out being about blood cells and molecules which are so tiny but have such a major impact on our lives, for good and for bad.If you look closely you can see the different red and white blood cells but as i was assembling the work over a couple of weeks i listened to David Bowies BlackStar Album and I began to see the work through slightly different eyes, I could see the micro and the macro . The molecules and the galaxy. This work has become for me now about Life, Death and the universe. Hope people enjoy seeing the work on exhibition until 30th July at The RHA Gallery Dublin.
